Virtualization for IBM Power servers
Updated
IBM PowerVM is the server virtualization technology for IBM Power servers. It lets organizations run multiple AIX, IBM i and Linux workloads on one system by dividing hardware into logical partitions with shared processors, memory and I/O, and it is managed alongside IBM's Power software stack.
PowerVM is used by enterprise IT teams running IBM Power systems for core business applications in banking, retail, manufacturing and government that want to consolidate servers and improve hardware utilization.
IBM does not list PowerVM prices on its product catalog page. PowerVM is licensed through IBM and business partners together with Power systems, so request a quote based on the edition and number of cores.
Alternatives to IBM PowerVM on other hardware include VMware vSphere, Red Hat KVM and Microsoft Hyper-V. Those run on x86 servers, so choosing between them usually follows the underlying platform, such as Power versus x86.
