Streaming SQL database for real-time, always-fresh views
Materialize is a streaming SQL database (an operational data warehouse) built to keep results continuously up to date as new data arrives. Instead of re-running queries on a schedule, you define views in standard SQL and Materialize maintains them incrementally in real time — so the moment source data changes, your materialized views reflect it. This "live" approach lets teams power real-time dashboards, alerting, personalization, fraud detection, and data products that always show the latest state, using familiar SQL rather than complex stream-processing code.
The platform is built on incremental computation and Postgres compatibility. It connects to streaming sources (like Kafka) and databases (like PostgreSQL via change data capture), continuously ingests changes, and updates joins, aggregations, and transformations incrementally with strong consistency. Because it is wire-compatible with PostgreSQL, developers query it with standard SQL and tools, and it exposes always-fresh results to apps and BI. Increasingly positioned as a live context layer for AI agents and operational apps, Materialize turns streaming data into simple, queryable SQL views.
Materialize serves data and engineering teams building real-time applications, analytics, and data products. It is offered as a self-managed Community edition (free within usage limits — 24 GiB memory, 48 GiB disk) and as a fully managed cloud service with credit-based pricing (compute credits per cluster-hour; for example an M.1-small cluster consumes 6 compute credits per hour), plus a 7-day free trial and custom Enterprise. It competes with RisingWave, ksqlDB, Apache Flink, and Tinybird, differentiating on incremental, PostgreSQL-compatible streaming SQL.
