Infrastructure as code using real programming languages
Pulumi is a modern infrastructure-as-code platform that lets teams define and manage cloud infrastructure using general-purpose programming languages — TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Go, C#, Java, and YAML — instead of a domain-specific language. This means engineers can use familiar languages, loops, functions, classes, real testing frameworks, and IDE tooling to build infrastructure, applying software-engineering practices to cloud provisioning across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, and 150+ providers.
Pulumi centers on the Pulumi Cloud (managed state, secrets, and collaboration) plus the open-source SDK. It manages desired-state deployments with previews and detailed diffs, stores state and encrypted secrets, supports policy as code (CrossGuard) for governance, and offers Pulumi ESC for centralized environments, secrets, and configuration, plus Pulumi Deployments for CI/CD-style runs and Pulumi IDP/Neo for internal developer platforms and AI-assisted infrastructure. Because it uses real code, teams can abstract and reuse infrastructure like any software library.
Pulumi serves developers and platform teams who prefer real languages over HCL for infrastructure as code. The Individual tier is free (about 150,000 credits/month, roughly 200 resources); the Team edition is usage-based (credits, with 150,000 free monthly and additional credits inexpensively priced); and Enterprise and Business Critical are custom-quoted (Enterprise is also available on the AWS Marketplace). One credit equals one resource managed for one hour. It competes with Terraform, AWS CDK, and CloudFormation, differentiating on using general-purpose programming languages.
