Gradescope

What is Gradescope?

Gradescope is an assessment management platform owned by Turnitin that helps instructors grade paper-based exams, digital submissions, code projects and bubble sheets. AI-assisted answer grouping clusters similar responses so they can be graded together.

Key capabilities of Gradescope

• Answer grouping: clusters similar responses for batch grading
• Flexible rubrics: one-click feedback application
• Paper exam grading: scanned handwritten work
• Code project grading: programming assignments
• Bubble sheets: multiple-choice scanning
• Variable-length assignments: problem sets and projects

How Gradescope works

Instructors upload an assignment template and student submissions, then build a rubric. Where answer grouping applies, the system clusters similar answers so one decision applies to many students. Rubric items attach consistent feedback, and analytics show how students performed on each question.

Who uses Gradescope?

Instructors in computer science, physics, math, chemistry, biology, engineering and economics use it. Gradescope reports 700M+ questions graded, 2,600+ universities, 140,000+ instructors and 3.2M+ students.
